Scholarships

We wanted to outline the scholarship process as it pertains to sending checks to the university. As a reminder, no checks should be written directly to a student. All checks should go through Student Financial Services so that we can guarantee the student is actually attending FSU, that the funds are going towards tuition and that the funds are accounted for in terms of alumni giving/participation. Below you will find the procedures for both endowed and non-endowed funds.

Endowed:

  1. Student must send a thank-you note to the club indicating what the funds will be used for (can be in writing or in an email)
  2. Club must send the following to the FSU Alumni Association (Attn: Sue Fulford, 1030 West Tennessee St., Tallahassee, FL 32304)
    1. Student’s thank-you note
    2. Cover letter indicating the winner’s name, FSUID, scholarship amount and distribution parameters (example- half spring/half fall, all fall, all spring, etc.)
  3. Alumni Association will then gather the info and ensure that it is given to the FSU Foundation to have checks cut from your endowment fund (spendable cash)

Non-endowed (funds raised throughout the year):

  1. Student must send a thank-you note to the club indicating what the funds will be used for (can be in writing or in an email)
  2. Club must send the following to Student Financial Services directly (Attn: Disbursement Section, A1500 University Center, Tallahassee, FL 32306)
    1. Student’s thank-you note
    2. Cover letter indicating the winner’s name, FSUID, scholarship amount and distribution parameters (example- half spring/half fall, all fall, all spring, etc.)
    3. Check made out to Florida State University in the amount of the individual scholarship with the student’s name and FSUID somewhere on it
*Note- if you are giving multiple scholarships please do this whole process for each winner individually (meaning one cover letter and one check for each, etc.)
